The Wild Strength of the North

Norway

I am Yrsa!

I come from northern Norway, from the region around Tromsø. I grew up there, with long winters, little light, and a daily life shaped by the weather and seasons. I became interested in stories about Vikings and shieldmaidens early on. Their strength, their endurance, their clarity. That shaped me.

My father's parents live in the Black Forest, on a small farm. I've spent every summer there for as long as I can remember. Cows, sheep, early mornings, fixed routines. Work that repeats itself and finds its meaning precisely in that. I learned just as much there as I did at home. Different, but familiar. The forest is denser, the landscape narrower, but the basic feeling is similar. You're outside, you're busy, you belong.

This place is not a vacation for me. It is a part of me. I move there just as naturally as I do in the North. Two landscapes that differ, but both lie within me. I am at home in Norway. And yet there is this other line that draws me back every year.

The image combines Nordic heritage with elements of the Black Forest through clear, powerful details. The braided hair and runic tattoos refer to Viking tradition and a culture that visibly carries strength. The fur elements stand for the harsh climate of the North, for protection and resilience. In contrast, the red bollen are a striking symbol of the Black Forest costume, which here takes on a new, reduced form. The combination shows a figure who does not stage her strength but carries it naturally.
