The Serenity of Flowers

Netherlands

I'm Marit!

I'm from near Lisse in the Netherlands. My grandparents had tulip fields, and I grew up with them. The tulip was always there. I know its rhythm, the care it needs, the right timing. I started working at the market early, arranging bouquets, selling them. My grandfather showed me what matters. Clear quality, honest work, no compromises.

His death hit me hard. For a long time, it was clear to me that I would take over the business. But I didn't just want to continue what already existed. I wanted to create something of my own. That's how I somewhat coincidentally ended up in a small town in the Black Forest. The decision was made quickly. I opened my own flower shop here. Smaller than at home, quieter, with different procedures.

Today, the shop is my own place. I work with focus and close to the flowers. The tulip has remained, even here. It's not a given, but that's precisely what makes it special. It reminds me of my origins and why I chose this path.

The image combines Dutch tradition with elements of the Black Forest through clear, recognizable details. The blue embroidery with tulip motifs refers to the origin and culture of flower cultivation. The vibrant colors represent liveliness and openness. The traditional shape of the dirndl places these motifs in the context of the Black Forest and adds a second artisanal layer. The tattoos deliberately break this order and refer to a modern, self-determined identity. The combination shows a figure who stands between origin and present and visibly carries both.
