The Light of Silence

Japan

I am Hikari!

My name means light. I was born in Japan, but I have no memories of it. As a small child, I was adopted and brought to the Black Forest. My family here is my home. I grew up with warmth, patience, and trust. I never lacked anything. And yet, there is this part that remains open. I don't know who my parents were or why they gave me away.

Sometimes I think about it. Not often, but when I do, it becomes quiet. In these moments, I imagine that I come from another world. That my grandmother might have been a geisha. A woman who controls every movement, who speaks without saying much, who is present in a room without being loud. I see fabrics, patterns, subdued light, clear rituals. It's not knowledge, just an idea. But it feels right.

Here in the Black Forest, everything is different. More open, more direct, less regulated. And yet, sometimes I feel that something of that has remained within me. In the way I move, the way I observe, the way I react to people. I don't know my past. But I have learned to live with what I create from it.

The image combines Japanese aesthetics with elements of the Black Forest through precisely placed details. The elaborate hairstyle with a comb and blossoms refers to the traditional appearance of a geisha and the importance of form and order. The light, almost porcelain-like skin tones and controlled makeup stand for discipline and perfection. The red bobbles pick up the shape of the Black Forest costume and create a deliberate contrast to the subtle restraint of the rest of the design. The floral elements connect both cultures in their symbolism and show how strongly tradition is expressed in small details.
